Statement:
As a lesbian in diverse and liberal Minneapolis, I am spared much of the brunt of my country’s hatred and fear of homosexuality. However, I was taught that injustice is perpetuated not just by those who initiate it but also by those who do not fight it. Many GLBTQ individuals are forced to live in silence, fear and isolation, and I will no longer leave them alone to fight against discriminatory policies and institutionalized homophobia. Visiting these schools is an opportunity to give a human face to homosexuality and correct the untruths spread by fear and bigotry. By joining the Soulforce Equality Ride, I am choosing to live by my convictions, and standing with others to demand justice and equality.
