(Lynchburg, VA) Soulforce is pleased to be a co-sponsor of the White House Egg Roll family visibility event, along with Family Pride.

As a co-sponsor with Family Pride, Soulforce will be inviting families to participate in this great American tradition. The Egg Roll is an important event for American families and especially important to Family Pride, the advocacy organization dedicated to equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) parents and their families. It is Family Pride who has taken the lead in reaching out to LGBT families by extending invitations to the White House Egg Roll.

Jeff Lutes, Soulforce’s new executive director, says, "As fathers, my partner and I look forward to joining Family Pride and bringing our son to the White House lawn this Easter, resurrecting the national conversation about real people with real families. We hope our President will welcome the full diversity of American families."

We encourage everyone interested in this event to contact Family Pride as the event organizers. For more information about the event, go to

Robyn Murphy, 612-965-0838,

(Dallas, TX) With only fifty days till the wheels start rolling; Soulforce announces the historic itinerary of colleges and universities that have anti-gay admission policies. "Colleges and Universities don’t want to make this list! This list means you have policies that devalue the life of GLBT people and slam the door on academic freedom." explains Equality Ride Director Jacob Reitan.

Like the Freedom Rides of the 50’s and 60’s, the Equality Ride will take 35 young adults; age 18-27, on an eight week bus tour to confront nineteen religious and/or military colleges that ban the enrollment of GLBT students. Reitan adds, "Our hope is that these colleges will see our visit as an opportunity to embrace the ideals of academic freedom, welcome us, and engage in open frank and productive dialogue with us."

Scheduled to take place March 5 through April 30th, the itinerary for the ride is as follows:

March 5: Arrive in Washington D.C. for a week of training and preparation
March 10: Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA
March 14: Regent University, Virginia Beach, VA
March 16 and 17: Lee University, Cleveland, TN
March 20 and 21: Oral Robert University, Tulsa, OK
March 23 and 24: Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, OK
March 27: Abilene Christian University, Abilene, TX
March 29: Texas A&M, College Station TX (Our focus will be on the discrimination which takes place in the ROTC)
March 30 and 31: Council for Christian Colleges and Universities International Conference, Dallas , TX (This conference happens only once every five years.)
April 4: Biola University & California Baptist, both in the Los Angeles, CA area
April 5: Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, CA
April 10 and 11: Brigham Young University, Provo, UT

April 18: Bethel University, St. Paul, MM
April 20 and 21: Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL
April 24: Eastern University, St. Davids, PA
April 26 and 27: United States Military Academy, West Point, NY
April 29: Debrief in Washington, D.C.
April 30: Depart for home

The students selected for this groundbreaking bus tour represent a diverse mix of bright, faith-filled, young adults from all corners of the country. At each stop along route these confident and engaging activists will present a powerful case for GLBT equality.

Bans on open enrollment of GLBT students can force young people into closets of fear and self-hate. The Equality Ride empowers young adults to challenge such policies, while also advocating for the closeted students they meet and educating the college leadership they confront.

This week the Equality Ride students and leadership are meeting in Dallas, Texas for training in effective activism and nonviolent resistance.

Rev. Lonnie Latham: Another Victim of the Southern Baptist Lie Regarding Homosexuality

For Immediate Release
Contact: Robyn Murphy, Director of Public Relations & Media

(Lynchburg, VA) In response to today’s news that the Rev. Lonnie Latham, a prominent figure in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) and senior pastor of South Tulsa Baptist Church, was arrested Tuesday for propositioning a male undercover police officer, Soulforce founder Rev. Dr. Mel White says, "No one should have to come out via an undercover sting operation. That is its own evil. Until the Southern Baptist Convention ends their spiritual violence against gay and lesbian people, tragedies like this will continue."

Soulforce exists as an organization to end spiritual violence against LGBT people. "The false anti-gay teachings of the Southern Baptist Convention have claimed yet another victim," said Robyn Murphy, Director of Public Relations and Media, for Soulforce. "Many people are attacking Rev. Latham for his hypocrisy, but instead we should be asking ‘what informs that hypocrisy’? The answer is the SBC’s vicious and non-stop campaign of defamation against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people and same-gender families."

Jamie McDaniel, a spokesperson for Soulforce who works to change the anti-gay polices of the SBC, said, "It’s unconscionable that so many, like Rev. Latham, have never been told the truth that they can live with dignity and express their God-given sexuality in ways that are open, honest, loving, and life-affirming. Trapped by Southern Baptist misinformation, many people of faith think their only option is to live a dark and secretive double-life. The SBC needs to be held accountable for causing this kind of needless suffering."

The Southern Baptist Convention, with over 15 million members, is the 2nd largest denomination in the United States. Southern Baptist teachings are a primary source of misinformation about homosexuality and homosexual people. Southern Baptist leaders also attempt to rally their congregations to defeat nearly every piece of legislation that would help LGBT Americans gain equality. In the past, the Southern Baptist Convention simply condemned homosexuals with anti-gay rhetoric, but in recent years Southern Baptists have stated their intention to "minister" to gays and lesbians by promoting ex-gay programs and so-called "reparative" therapy.
