Thirty-five students and young activists from New York to California will hit the road this summer with the support of Soulforce, Empire State Pride Agenda and Vassar College’s ACTOUT!
WHERE:
Four distinct routes covering the entire state of New York: Poughkeepsie to Long Island, Albany to the St. Lawrence Seaway, Syracuse to the Finger Lakes, and Rochester to Niagara Falls! Visiting senators’ and assemblymen/women’s home district offices and the surrounding communities.
WHEN:
July 14-28, 2007
WHAT:
We will hold townhall meetings, attend community events & church services and speak with state legislators and their constituents about same-gender marriage, urging them to support marriage inclusion legislation in New York!
WHY:
New York is closer than any state in the nation to realizing marriage equality! Governor Eliot Spitzer has introduced a bill to extend marriage rights to same-gender couples and we need your help to garner support for it! We are looking for dedicated young activists who can make a two-week commitment to making marriage equality a reality. All expenses will be paid, including transportation, training in NYC, food and lodging. Apply to join the ride!

"We will not ask whether this proposition of legalizing same-sex marriage is popular or unpopular; we will not ask if it’s hard or easy; we will simply ask if it’s right or wrong…I think we know… what the answer to that question is."
