I am a former student of Oral Roberts University (ORU) in Tulsa, OK. I want to tell my story so that future students may not have to endure what I did during and after my time at ORU.
I started Oral Robets University in the Fall of 2001. I was anxious to get the year started and looked forward to the next four years at what I thought was one of the greatest schools on the planet. Unfortunately, I found out otherwise midway through my Freshman year. The administration at ORU found out I was gay. Not only did they invade my privacy and search my computer, bedroom and personal belongings, but they made me withdraw from the University, which caused my GPA to drop drastically, as they gave me Withdrawal while Failing (WF) grades on ALL grades. I was screwed; couldn’t even go to another school for a year after.
Why didn’t I sue? Well I had planned on it, but I signed the Honor Code at the beginning of the year, which stated I’d refrain from a number of activities and social abnormalities while attending ORU. Luckily, they could not talk to my parents about it, as I was an Independent student.
None the less, they got away with a huge injustice. What they did was discrimination and hypocracy at its worst.
I’ve learned alot since my experinces at ORU. If there is anyone who has any questions or just would like to talk, feel free to email me. I have an email address solely for this. The address is talktome80@cox.net
Thanks for reading and I hope you all the best.
