Stories of Courage in the Roman Catholic Church

January 1, 1998 by soulforce

Our message to the Catholic Bishops during the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ annual meeting this year (2004) was directed to those who already know the truth about LGBT people of faith.

Our banner read "Romero gave his life for justice – what will you risk?" Each day we gave out a different handout – the first was our "Why We Vigil," in which we identified 4 gay and lesbian saints of our times (www.soulforce.org/article/95)

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of our vigil, we passed out a different chapter of our "Stories of Courage."

Chapter 1: Willie Walsh, Bishop of Killaloe in Ireland

Chapter 2: An Open Letter to the Hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church Regarding the Pastoral Care of Gay and Lesbian Persons.

Chapter 3: Brave Catholic Mother of a Lesbian
