The 2006 Equality Ride Route: Lee University

January 1, 1998 by soulforce

Lee University

Dr. Paul Conn, president of Lee University, has decided not to allow us a sponsored forum to hold a panel discussion on his campus. However we are permitted on campus and allowed to give speeches outside and speak to students who wish to converse with us.

The following is the new schedule for our stop at Lee University:

Thursday March 16th
10:00AMDeer Park (located at 17th and Harle St.) – Non-violence training and education
11:15AMMeet at Alumni Park on campus to greet students as they exit from chapel. We will be passing our flyers about the Jason and DeMarco concert at Deer Park that afternoon as well as talking with the students and passing out information on support systems in East Tennessee (if you represent a welcoming group in East Tennessee please feel free to bring information about your group to give to the students if they request it because most of the closeted Lee students are not aware of the resources that are available to them.)
12 NoonDeer Park – FREE Concert by Jason and DeMarco, FREE LUNCH PROVIDED, everyone is welcome and in between sets we will have a special guest speaker.
2:30PM – 5:00PMBack on campus in the outside squares again talking to students and handing out information as well as making presentations on relevant issues.

Friday March 17th
11:30AMOn campus presenting Lee’s Closet (non-identifying letters from Lee students about their experiences at school) and Presenting One Word – words from Lee Alumnae who explain why they came to Lee, what they accomplished during their time at Lee, what they’ve been able to accomplish since leaving Lee and how all of that could have been taken away over one word (If you are a Lee student or Alumni and would like to contribute to these presentations please let me know at dawn@equalityride.com. If you would like to remain anonymous we will be happy to read your non-identifying words for you, or if you wish to present your words yourself then you are more than welcome to come to campus to participate with us.)
2:00PMAgain talking to students, passing out literature and most likely presenting some biblical presentations.

If you are a Lee student, Lee alumni, or if you are a concerned citizen from the Cleveland, Tennessee area, we encourage you to sign up to attend the concert and take part in the Soulforce Equality Ride stop at Lee.
