Wheaton administrators have worked closely with Soulforce Equality Ride members to plan two days of several forums and events. The members of the Soulforce Equality Ride look forward to our time at Wheaton and are confident that it will be an excellent learning opportunity for all people involved.
The concept for the Equality Ride came into being when Soulforce Equality Ride founder and co-director Jacob Reitan befriended a gay student at Wheaton during his time as an undergraduate student at Northwestern University, located in nearby Evanston, IL. Jacob promised to his friend that he would work to confront the discrimination GLBT students face at Wheaton.
Sadly, Wheaton is amongst the most conservative schools when it comes to enforcement of their policy pertaining to GLBT issues. In addition to expelling students who come out as openly gay or lesbian, Wheaton also expels students who express the Biblical belief that God affirms gay and lesbian people.
If you are a Wheaton student and wish to help with the Soulforce Equality Ride visit to your school, or if you are a Chicago-area resident and would like to support our stay in your area please register below.
